Barcelona

Barcelona is lovely. London was cold and wet, and by the time we arrived in Barcelona, the weather was excellent. Not hot, just a pleasant kind of cosy in the sunny patches. So we spent practically the whole weekend walking round - Barcelona’s very rewarding, as long as you can dodge the Spanish traffic. Once you start lumping around the surrounding hills the views are incredible, and, being the continent, you can always stop for a beer.
We spent a surprising amount of time going up things in lifts. Barcelonans are somewhat proud of the aerial view of their city, and every building with more than four stories has a tiny lift, suitable for three small people, into which eighteen tourists will be crammed so they can see the view from the top.
Our pick of the vertical treats was the cable car from the docks to Miramar on Montjuic. When you go, don’t take my wife, who spent the whole time stamping on the floor and generally trying to find an exciting way out. This will concern the surrounding passengers.
